PCC-Sylvania hosts portrait painting tandem

Portland Community College is hosting an artists talk featuring two portrait painters who have teamed up to explore the same subjects, each from their own unique perspective.
Artists Becca Bernstein and Gwenn Seemel will host a reception and artist talk showcasing how they came together to produce their new show, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Northview Gallery (Room 214, CT Building, Sylvania Campus (12000 S.W. 49th Ave.). Their show will run from Thursday, Jan. 7 through Feb. 5. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Seemel is a working artist and lives in Portland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art and French, summa cum laude, from Willamette University. She is the recipient of grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, the Oregon Arts Commission, the Celebration Foundation, the Haven Foundation, the Artists’ Fellowship Inc, and Change Inc. Seemel’s work will be featured on OPB’s Oregon Art Beat on Jan. 14.
Bernstein earned a bachelor’s degree in drawing, cum laude, at Lewis & Clark College and studied at the University of Glasgow, eventually interning at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Bernstein was selected by Southwest Art Magazine in 2008 as one of 21 emerging artists to watch. She won numerous awards and grants and her work can be found in the public collections of City of Lake Oswego, Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, Northwest Business for Culture and the Arts and the Oregon Ballet Theatre.
