Southeast Center’s Asian New Year Celebration packs Legin Restaurant
Photos and story by James Hill
Portland Community College’s Southeast Center was alive with color and Asian flair as staff, students and the community celebrated the year of the Tiger with music, entertainment, food, vendors and door prizes. The event featured lion and Asian dances, martial arts, face painting, demonstrations on how to use chopsticks and paper lantern-cutting, and plenty of games and activities. No PCC Asian New Year Celebration would be complete without the lion dancers from the Northwest Learning Studio kicking off the festivities. This year's event celebrated not only the Chinese Lunar New Year, but also all Asian cultures in the surrounding community. The event attracted more than 450 people to the Southeast Center complex.

Arts and crafts were sold at the event, which filled Legin Restaurant next door to the Southeast Portland campus.

Student volunteers from PCC and Benson Tech greeted the public at the door and helped check them in for raffles and lunch.
