Photos and story by

A remembrance ceremony for the late Dr. Amo DeBernardis (March 14, 1913 to Feb. 19, 2010) is set for 4 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, Performing Arts Center, Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. DeBernardis, the founding president of Portland Community College, will be honored and celebrated by family and friends.

Dr. Amo DeBernardis

“Dr. De” as he was known, served as president from 1961 to 1979 and how PCC looks and functions today is a credit to his pioneering vision. His colorful and often blunt way, helped mold PCC into a dynamic multi-campus community college during an era when most believed a community college in Portland would fail.
