Latin American music lecture at PCC-Sylvania

Photos and story by

The Sylvania Campus is hosting a musical lecture on the roots and history of Latin American music on Thursday, April 15.

Freddy Vilches, a Chilean musician and professor of Latin American literature at Lewis & Clark College, and the Matices Latin Ensemble headline the event, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Musical guests will share the rich cultural traditions and history of Latin American music in a dynamic format that intertwines musical performance with enriching discussion. Through songs and conversation, Vilches will highlight how African, Indigenous and European elements are combined in Latin American musical expressions.

The event is open to all and free of charge, thanks to support from the Sylvania Multicultural Center, English and World Languages Division, and Diversity Council.
