Sylvania’s GED program graduates nearly 160 students

Photos and story by

The Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus of Portland Community College was nearly standing room-only when the campus held its annual graduation ceremony on June 7 for students graduating from its GED program.

Saedo Abshir celebrates with family and friends after graduating from this year’s GED class at PCC Sylvania.

The ceremony is one of the largest GED graduations in the Portland area and the largest of the PCC campuses; the program is supported by a staff of six instructors.

After an open microphone session where students – and their friends and families – could speak about this year’s graduates, attendees watched a PowerPoint presentation and the presentation of diplomas, followed by the tassel ceremony and a reception.
