PCC Financial Aid Day set for Saturday, Jan. 29

Portland Community College will once again open its doors and give students assistance with submitting their free application for federal financial aid (FAFSA) for college.

PCC is hosting its annual Financial Aid Day from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 29 at four college locations. Staff and student volunteers will be on hand to help students find their way around campus, assist them in completing the FAFSA forms and submitting the application online in the computer labs. This event is open to any college student or high school senior seeking help in filling out the FAFSA form.

Students should bring their parents after they download the FAFSA form by filling it out as completely as possible, and the appropriate pre-application worksheet found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students and parents should bring their Social Security numbers, birth dates, financial aid PIN, information on income earned for 2010, a 2010 W-2, last pay stub from 2010 or 2009 tax return and current value of assets.

Help for military veterans offered

The Cascade and Rock Creek campuses and the Southeast Center will have veteran’s benefit information. PCC recently hired a Veterans Affairs Specialist to help serve students returning from combat access educational benefits. The specialist helps veterans and their spouses and dependents use their benefits to support their college expenses. For more details visit: www.pcc.edu/vets.

Newberg Shuttle to transport students

In addition, the college will have a free shuttle from Newberg, Dundee and Sherwood taking riders to the Sylvania Campus. Pick-up points include: Naps Thriftway (112 E. 1st St.) in Newberg at 8:05 a.m., Dundee Post Office (279 S.W. 5th St.) at 8:16 a.m., Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan) in Newberg at 8:29 a.m., Newberg Fred Meyer (3300 Portland Road) at 8:45 a.m. and Sherwood Shari’s (16280 S.W. Langer Dr.) at 8:55 a.m. The return shuttle leaves Sylvania at noon. Interested riders should call (971) 722-8602 before Jan. 27 to reserve a seat.
