Washington, D.C. – Our PCC delegation has arrived in D.C. to meet Oregon’s congressional delegation. We’d been wheels-down at Dulles about five minutes when the AP was announcing that President Obama’s proposed budget would chop $100 billion out of the Pell Grant Program.
Sigh….
The Pell Grant is incredibly important for our community college students. We haven’t seen the details yet but will have to study this. White House Budget Director Jacob Lew said the proposal would maintain the maximum grant of $5,550 but would nix grants for summer school. We’ll fill you in more as we learn more this week.
