Blog: David Broder dies at 81

Photos and story by

One of my heroes, David Broder of the Washington Post, died this week at age 81. He was the consummate journalist.

Jeff Mapes of The Oregonian shares with me a few things: A passion for Oregon politics and an admiration of David Broder. Jeff wrote a great tribute to Broder this week. One passage reads:

“I remember one election year – in the 1990s, I think – when I heard that Broder was out knocking on doors in the Portland suburbs.  I realized with chagrin that he might very well have talked to more average voters in the state that year than I did.”

Thanks, Jeff, for voicing for us all the passage of a great journalist.
