Miller Matched!: PCC Foundation reaches historic fund-raising goal
Photos and story by James Hill
Three years ago, the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation challenged Oregon’s community colleges to raise a record amount of money for scholarships, with the promise of matching gifts. The PCC Foundation had met the challenge two years in a row when the Miller Foundation came back last year and upped the ante.
Could the PCC Foundation do it again?
“With your help, we did!” said Kim Kono, director of development for the PCC Foundation. “Once again, the PCC community has come through, big time. We more than met the match. We’ve succeeded and the Miller Foundation will match the funds.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the total for new and increased scholarship gifts stood at $327,436. This year’s goal was to raise $320,000 by March 31. Thanks to this effort, the PCC Foundation is poised to help a record number of students obtain their educational goals, Kono added. But there are still two weeks to go before the end of the Faculty, Staff & Retiree Campaign and every donated dollar helps another student.
“If you haven’t given yet, it’s not too late,” Kono added. “And, ‘thank you’ to everyone who stepped up for our students.”
