Blog: want to testify for Ways & Means? Sign up early

Photos and story by

The Legislature’s full budget-writing body, the Ways & Means Committee, is coming to the Sylvania Campus, 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.
The entire $14 billion state budget is up for debate, and advocates from throughout the state will be on hand. Remember: Oregon is facing a budget shortfall of $3.5 billion for the 2011-13 biennium.
“Optimism,” said Candide, “is the mania for maintaining that all is well when things are going badly.” That being said, I remain cautiously optimistic during these budget battles. Your testimony does matter to lawmakers.
Sign-up sheets will be posted in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, sometime before the hearing begins. If you want to testify before the budget-writers, it is recommended that you get there early and sign up.
The hearing will be simulcast in the PAC Lobby and ST 101. The following day, the tape will be posted at www.pcc.edu and will run on the college’s cable station, Channel 27.
