Benefit to help survivors of Japan’s deadly earthquake, tsumani

Mark the calendar for 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 27, in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, for a fund-raiser to benefit those devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Sponsored by the Japanese department at Sylvania Campus and ASPCC, “For the People of Japan” will feature a rich and diverse slate of entertainment: A poetry reading, Honki Children’s Taiko, performances of the Koto harp and Shakuhachi flute, and even Jiu Jitsu! All donations are welcome and will be funneled through Mercy Corps to help those in Japan.
The event is free of charge and open to the public. Additionally, t-shirt sales are under way as another fund-raising method. Orders will be taken through May 27. call Takako Yamaguchi at (971) 722-8005 to place an order. Suggested prices are $14 for students, and $21 for faculty and staff.
