Gala to announce People’s Choice Award, PCC-style

Photos and story by

There will be a closing reception at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 2 in the Northview Gallery, which will allow attendees to vote for their favorite artwork on display at the gallery. Retired Art History instructor Jim Hicks will be on hand to announce the winner of the Jim Hicks People’s Choice Award. The award was established by the Art Department to honor Hick’s contribution to the PCC community.

He served as the department chair for many years and provided the initial exposure to art and much inspiration for hundreds and hundreds of Sylvania students through his dynamic art history lectures and discussions.

The People’s Choice Award allows students, faculty, staff and other gallery visitors to weigh in on their favorite individual artwork in the exhibition through a write-in balloting process – one vote per person. Ballots are in the gallery and can be dropped off at the reception desk in CT 216. Voting is still open. This year’s award includes a $100 gift certificate to Columbia Art and Drafting Supplies.
