Rock Creek Campus: Project Update

Photos and story by

Over the last three months (February-April 2011), the Rock Creek team has been working with PCC students, faculty and staff on campus programming.  Based upon the preferred campus program distribution scheme recommended by the Bond Internal Steering Committee (BISC), a group comprised of campus stakeholders, and the proposed schedule for bond-funded improvements, the team will provide the information needed to accurately inform cost estimates and decision making.

This spring, the team also formed five focus committees that are rooted in the Communities of Interest structure from last year’s planning process. These new committees, which began meeting in February, will focus on specific buildings and projects:

The West Zone Focus Committee: Primary tasks include vetting criteria for site-related projects identified in the Rock Creek Draft Campus Plan, and apply broad oversight and guidance relative to site connectivity and sustainability goals.

The Career Technical Programs Focus Committee: Primary task is to serve as the organizing body for the Career Technical Education Program infrastructure upgrades and renovation projects in Building 2.

The Learning Spaces Focus Committee: Primary task is to develop program criteria for formal and informal learning spaces, faculty workspace, and serve as the organizing body for program elements identified within the addition to Building 7.

Schematic design for the addition will begin in May 2011, and a subcommittee of the Learning Spaces group will likely be serving as the building committee reporting to the BISC for this first major building project at Rock Creek funded by the bond approved by voters in 2008.
