Photos and story by Kate Chester
Interested in learning about curricular resources centered on storm water issues at Sylvania? If so, plan on stopping by a workshop geared to the campus’ storm water plans. This event is set to go from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, May 19, Sylvania TLC, and it will offer:
- A snapshot – thanks to Google Earth and chemistry instructor Frank Granshaw – of a virtual trip of the campus.
- Maps of streams on campus produced by students in Christina Friedle’s Geographic Information Systems class.
- Feedback from Brian Wegener, from the Tualatin Riverkeepers, about innovative ways to handle storm water.
- Service-learning opportunities for students related to this topic.
- The chance to check out water quality testing equipment available for use with classes.
- A storm water campus field trip – do you know where the outfalls are?
The event is made possible through the Sylvania Green Initiative fund and is free of charge. All instructors and interested staff, from all PCC campuses, are welcome to attend; part-time faculty can apply for a handful of stipends, available on a first come-first served basis.
For questions and to RSVP, contact Linda Fergusson-Kolmes, biology instructor, at (971) 722-4404, or linda.fergussonkolmes@pcc.edu.
