Photos and story by

At Jefferson High School news conference on Wednesday, June 15, a host of educators, dignitaries and students gathered to usher in a new era for the Middle College partnership between PCC and Portland Public Schools. The University of Oregon announced that it will provide up to three years of tuition-free study to Middle College students who complete one year of study at PCC through the program, whether during high school or after. Students in the program now have a clear path from high school all the way to a Bachelor’s degree.

In addition, the program has operated on an opt-in basis – but starting this fall, the Middle College will expand to encompass every JHS freshman. PPS Superintendent Carole Smith was joined by PCC President Preston Pulliams, University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere, newly-appointed Jefferson Principal Margaret Calvert and Mayor Sam Adams to announce the news.
