Faculty, staff and students at the Sylvania Campus did just that – “came and experienced” the annual summer luau on July 7, held in the Performing Arts Center lobby. The event is organized each year by the campus Traditions, Rituals and Fun Committee.
“For me, it is so enjoyable to share with or bring Aloha – or Hawai’i – to faculty and staff at the college,” said Tina Napua Heber, executive assistant to Campus President Linda Gerber and co-chair of the TRF Committee with Gerber.
“It’s a highlight for the TRF committee to plan this event each year, especially during the summer term, when the pace is a little slower on campus – faculty and staff really seem to enjoy it,” said Heber. “And we get to wear authentic Hawaiian dress to work, too – you can’t beat that!”
Music, dancers, games and native food – from kalua pork to huli huli chicken to haupia pudding – were included in the festivities, as well as a free screening of “Ho’okele Wai’a,” a film about the history and culture of Hawai’i.
