Portland Community College along with Autodesk and SolidWorks, are hosting a full day CAD Summit for design and education professionals.

Portland Community College Computer Aided Design and Drafting Program is hosting the summit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Performing Arts Center, Sylvania Campus (12000 S.W. 49th Ave.). There will be classroom training, seminars, Q-and-A sessions and demos of the future of mechanical computer-aided design technologies. Co-sponsors for the event include Autodesk and SolidWorks, with support from MCAM Northwest and Shounco Design Studios.

This event is free to the public, and lunch, parking, and prizes will be provided.

“We wanted to provide a comprehensive event that allows various design professionals, CAD technologists and students a chance to get together under one roof and share ideas,” said Mark Hagen, chair of the PCC CADD program and summit organizer. “Also, we want to provide them with a little perspective on what the job climate is like in Portland. We will have hands-on training so people can see the newest concepts and design software we teach at PCC.”

At PCC, students can earn a one-year certificate in computer-aided design and drafting, providing the skills needed to obtain an entry-level position in the field. Industry-standard skills include freehand drafting, modern computer-aided design programs, 3-D modeling, mathematical concepts and problem solving. Graduates include employees in the engineering departments for such companies as Nike, in footwear design; or Leupold and Stevens, in binocular and scope design and engineering.
