Photos and story by

The Gilman International Scholarship cycle for summer and fall term study abroad programs has just opened. The deadline to submit all application material is Thursday, March 1.

Students must be currently enrolled undergraduate students at the time of their study abroad experience. Students graduating prior to their program start date are not eligible for a Gilman Scholarship. Students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of study abroad. Study abroad programs must be at least 28 consecutive days in length in one country to qualify for the scholarship. The program begins when the students arrive in country and ends when the students depart. Travel days and days en route do not count as part of the program length.

Some rules to consider: Students may only receive a Gilman International Scholarship once; Students may not study in any country not currently under a U.S. State Department Travel Warning or Cuba; and the program must be for academic credit.
