The next set of free tickets for the Linus Pauling Lecture Series is now available for students (one ticket per person). The tickets are for Paul Alivisatos on the topic of “Breakthrough in Energy: Nano-Solar.” This lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday March 15 at the Schnitzer Concert Hall in downtown Portland. The tickets are available for students only up until Thursday, March 8 when they become available to any PCC staff or faculty member. To get one, ask at the circulation desk at any of the PCC libraries, or at the information booths of Southeast Center and Hillsboro.

As director of Berkeley Lab, Alivisatos has launched two major scientific initiatives, “Carbon Cycle 2.0,” a multidisciplinary approach to developing ways to help restore the balance in Earth’s carbon cycle, which has been adversely affected by human activity, and the “Next Generation Light Source,” the world’s first facility capable of producing x-ray pulses measured in attoseconds, the timescale needed to capture the movement of electrons. Alivisatos has also proactively invigorated Berkeley Lab’s safety culture and elevated the Lab’s community outreach efforts.
