OEIB will hold additional community forum in North Portland

The Oregon Education Investment Board held seven community meetings across the state in January to discuss next steps to improve student success in Oregon’s public education system, from pre-kindergarten through to college and career readiness. More than 1,100 Oregonians participated.

Governor John Kitzthaber spoke at the OEIB meeting at Rock Creek Campus in early February.

The Oregon Education Investment Board has scheduled an eighth community forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at the Center for Self Enhancement (3920 N. Kerby Ave.).

The Governor and members of the OEIB wanted to make an additional effort to reach out to communities who have historically been underserved by the public education system. They want to hear more from students, parents and educators facing and overcoming the education system’s challenges of race, language and poverty – and to hear their advice as the work continues. The decisions made by the OEIB in the coming weeks and months will likely have far-reaching ramifications to education in Oregon.
