Northview Gallery exhibit ‘Data Systems Plaza’ ends April 27
Photos and story by James Hill
The exhibit, “Data Systems Plaza,” by Damien Gilley ends April 27 at the Sylvania Campus’ Northview Gallery. Come check it out before it goes away!
Gilley’s show has transformed the gallery into a temporary showroom exhibiting sculptural experiences from a fictitious company. Drawing influence from science fiction and technology developments of the early digital era, the works reference an industry that posits advanced, speculative, and futuristic products and phenomena.
Gilley is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator in Portland. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including the Art Museum of South Texas (Corpus Christi, Texas), Las Vegas Art Museum, Arthouse (Austin, Texas), EastWestProject (Berlin, Germany), and in Portland at Rocksbox, Linfield College, and the Portland 2010 Biennial.
He has received grants from the Regional Arts & Culture Council, an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Oregon Arts Commission, and completed a permanent large-scale installation at Portland State University. He will be in residence at ARE Enschede in the Netherlands in summer 2012, culminating with an exhibition at Tetem Kunstruimte.
The Northview Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
