Kicking off Contracting Opportunities at Southeast Center – July 11
Photos and story by Gina Whitehill-Baziuk
Thanks to voters support of the 2008 bond measure, PCC is investing nearly $100 million into its Southeast Center, transforming it into a full-service, comprehensive campus for more than 20,000 students in the heart of an emerging commercial corridor and a city-designated urban renewal district (Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative program and map).
About $39 million in bond construction is planned for Southeast, with work slated to begin this July on the German American Society to create temporary space for PCC staff from the Occupational Skills Training (OST) Program, Career Pathways Program, Community Education and the campus president and deans’ office in the building’s east wing. The west wing will also be remodeled to serve as construction offices for O’Neill/Walsh Community Builders, the Construction Manager/General Contractor for PCC Southeast Center.
This September, construction crews will install fencing around the parking lots on the campus’ north side to prepare a staging site for construction of the new Student Commons building.
One of PCC’s goals is to reinvest these bond dollars into the community by spreading the work and opportunity out to minority and women-owned businesses and local vendors in Portland and Multnomah County. To facilitate that goal, PCC is hosting a Construction Kickoff to inform local contractors, minority, woman and emerging small businesses (MWESBs) about bidding opportunities at Southeast Center and kick-off construction this summer. The agenda for the Kickoff event on Wednesday, July 11 (8:30 – 10:30 am):
