Sylvania Campus welcomes fifth annual Robotics Camp

More than 20 high school students are participating in the fifth annual Robotics Camp at the Sylvania Campus, organized by the Machine Manufacturing Technology Program. On June 27, representatives from Intel and Mentor Graphics – two companies that help to fund the camp through the PCC Foundation – were given a tour of the machine manufacturing shop by instructors and students in the camp.
Most of the students are from more than a dozen high schools and compete on their high schools’ robotics teams. Because their own schools don’t have the facilities, the students have access to the college’s machine shop, which introduces them to band saws, drill presses, lathes. Through July, they will use the tools to design and build parts for their robotic creations used during their competitions and can return throughout the year to continue working on them. Students enrolled in the camp are technically enrolled in two college courses, so they’re also earning college credit over the summer.
