ASPCC, Coffee Creek join forces to provide socks for charities
Photos and story by James Hill
ASPCC is supporting Coffee Creek Correctional Facility’s Seventh Annual Sock Drive. The sock drive is a service-learning project for inmate students involved in PCC’s educational programs at Coffee Creek.
The students learn about homelessness and its causes, while collecting new socks to help local shelters. Last year, the campaign collected 4,500 pairs of pairs of socks and this year’s goal is 5,000. Coffee Creek is partnering with four local agencies: Loaves and Fishes (provides meals for seniors); My Father’s Heart (a day shelter and community room for homeless adults); Good Neighbor Center (Washington County’s only shelter for homeless families); and p:ear (helps homeless youth).
The deadline to drop off donations of new socks is 5, p.m., Friday, Dec. 14. Contact your local ASPCC office for donation locations.
