It can pay for students to attend PCC’s Financial Aid Day
Photos and story by James Hill
College students in the Portland metro area can get free help submitting their federal financial aid (FAFSA) form for 2013.
Portland Community College’s Financial Aid Day, which is presented in partnership with College Goal Oregon, is from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 5 at all major campuses. The day is perfect for students looking for money to go to college, needing help filling out the FAFSA form, or wanting to explore other resources to pay for college.
Federal grants (free money), work-study and loans are the types of financial aid students may be eligible to receive. In addition, the state of Oregon and PCC have financial aid available. The only way to find out what a student qualifies for is by submitting the FAFSA form. There will be plenty of help on hand at each PCC location to assist in filling out and submitting the application. Students do not have to be enrolled at PCC to take part in Financial Aid Day. Spanish language advisers will be available at all locations.
Both students and parents should attend if possible. Students and parents should bring Social Security numbers, birth dates, Federal Student Aid PINs, proof of income for 2012 including the 2012 W-2s, and last pay stub from 2011, or a copy of 2011 tax returns. Plus, students and parents will need to disclose current value of assets, including cash, checking, savings, investments and value of any businesses or farms.
