State Treasurer Ted Wheeler is coming to PCC’s Sylvania Campus to formally launch the Oregon Opportunity Initiative.
Treasurer Wheeler, Sylvania President Linda Gerber, student leaders and business partners will be on-hand for a press conference at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15 in the Performing Arts Lobby at the Sylvania Campus. All students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend. The initiative is a proposal that could provide thousands of additional students with Oregon Opportunity Grants in an effort to create a stable way to make higher education more accessible and affordable. He will outline details of the initiative as well as answer questions from attendees.
“We are delighted that PCC Sylvania can serve as the venue for the State Treasurer to unveil details about the Opportunity Initiative,” said Linda Gerber, president of the Sylvania Campus. “Students are strapped to pay for their schooling, including tuition, books and fees. We see it every day with the students we serve, who are taking on larger and larger loans to cover their expenses. The idea of creating a revenue-generating fund to help students with their educational goals is both admirable and greatly needed in Oregon.”
