PCC’s campus chapter of American Association for Women in Community Colleges is being honored at the national AAWCC Annual Awards Breakfast in San Francisco this April. The college’s chapter president, Cherie Maas-Anderson, applied for, and won, the national model chapter award for bringing women’s issues to the forefront. The award letter states: “Your multifaceted chapter programming is truly exemplar for chapter activities with local, regional and national applications. Please know that your AAWCC Chapter contributions and accomplishments are recognized and appreciated.”
Mass-Anderson said that PCC won for the chapter’s special events like its campus breakfasts, Chat N’ Stew’s, and reception and plays as well as for hosting a sock drive for Coffee Creek Correction Facility, donating to the Linus Project for Children and Oregon Food Bank, and making birthday cards for the Portland Rescue Mission, to name a few. Over the last few years, it has had more than 20 events involving over 400 women.
The Portland Community College chapter of AAWCC was established in 1995. It has more than 4,800 faculty and staff who work throughout the greater Portland area and beyond. The program blends academic, service oriented and social elements, all of which strengthen the PCC community. The board is represented by deans, faculty, administrative professionals, and academic staff.
