Heavy burdens of society melded into Vicki Wilson’s ‘Cumulus’
Video by Erik Fauske, Media Services - PCC TV.
This video profile of the installation artwork “Cumulus” by PCC Instructor Vicki Wilson shows how she developed and executed the concept – a giant sculpture of mostly cardboard. Wilson made the artwork through a summer residency program at PCC’s North View Gallery where she built the piece on site. She took over the entire gallery space to produce the work as interested visitors could come by and watch her put it all together. “Cumulus” was displayed at the North View Gallery at Sylvania Campus through February.
I loved that installation. I did have almost an ecstatic feeling of lightness of being in there because it seemed to me that all that stuff was really light, almost floating away, easy to see as insubstantial, a burden in one way, but then again not really. Because, as I stood there, I was the only substantial being in the room. Everything else was kind of a whimsical reminder…
Kind of a reflection of stuff, but… also, how little of it is really part of our inner lives. I’m not sure if I’m being very clear about that.
No that pretty much sums it up I think.
