From April 22-26 at the Rock Creek Campus’ Building 9 Event Center, Semana de la Raza will showcase Latino entertainment, special programs, films, a theater production, panel discussions, workshops and a special awards brunch. Semana is open to the public. All of its events are free to attend and children are welcome.

Highlights include a kickoff event from 10-11:30 a.m., Monday, April 22 featuring Afrotimba, a Cuban Percussion Band. On Wednesday, April 24, the films “14” and “La Mision” will be shown from noon to 2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m., respectively, with discussions to follow. On Thursday, April 25, there will be plenty of workshops and panel discussions, including “Routes to Permanent Residence” about immigration law from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Friday, April 26, the closing ceremony will feature the Cesar Chavez Awards, essay contest recognition and the revealing of the 2013 mural from 9-11 a.m.

Semana de la Raza is truly a PCC affair. It’s sponsored by the Multicultural Programming Committee and Multicultural Center at Rock Creek, ASPCC, Student Clubs, Dean of Students Office, Office of International Education, Blick Art Supplies, Utrecht Art Supplies and MUSE Art & Design.

If you are interested in helping out, volunteers are always needed for the various events. To volunteer, visit the Semana de la Raza webpage.
