President Brown participates in physics workshop

Photos and story by

On Saturday, July 13, new College President Jeremy Brown attended a workshop at the annual American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) summer meeting.  The workshop, titled “Drop Tower Physics,” was led by Sylvania instructor Toby Dittrich and was held in the Engineering building at the Portland State University.

The workshop was one of many that high school and college physics teachers from around the country had to choose from. The purpose of the meeting and workshops are to showcase unique ways for physics teachers to engage students. Dittrich’s workshop focused on experiments about “Drop Tower Physics,” conducted in the PSU drop tower.  The purposes of the experiments are to help explain what happens to fluid and movement in zero gravity.

Brown participated in the workshop, the interactive experiments and even had a behind the scenes look at the NASA experiment room that has a direct link with the International Space Station so students can conduct experiments in zero gravity.
