College encouraging staff, faculty and students to attend Day at the Capitol
Photos and story by James Hill
Want to lend your voice and stand with Portland Community College? Then the 2014 PCC Day at the Capitol on Friday, Feb. 7 is the event for you.
Join the PCC community – students, faculty, administrators and members of the college’s Board of Directors – as they travel to the state capitol in Salem and talk one-on-one with legislators to thank them for their support and reinforce the value of PCC to the state. This is an opportunity to meet elected officials and share your perspective about the importance of funding higher education. You can make a difference by describing how PCC offers people the chance to earn a college education, obtain skills to land in-demand jobs, and achieve their dreams – as well as what PCC means to you personally.
In addition to meeting legislators, participants will get the chance to witness a floor session and visit PCC information booths. This will be a fun, exciting day full of PCC pride and spirit on behalf of our college, with lunch and transportation provided. The day starts early with a shuttle bus departing the Sylvania Campus for Salem at 8:30 a.m. It will return to Sylvania at approximately 4:30 p.m. Events in Salem will take place from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you are staff or oversee a department and can’t go, encourage others or release some staff to attend instead.
If you’re interested in participating, you need to register by 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3. Follow this link to sign up and view a detailed schedule.
