Rock Creek performing arts chair instrumental in program’s expansion
Photos and story by James Hill
These days, the pastures and forests are alive with the sound of music at the Rock Creek Campus.
The music program based at the campus, once nearly non-existent, is growing by leaps and bounds. Instrumental in that growth is Music Instructor Jason Palmer. A drummer by trade, he serves as department chair for the Performing Arts Department. Him and fellow performing arts faculty like Pollyanna Hancock-Moody have been organizing musical nights and clinics showcasing a wide range of musical types at Rock Creek that feature Portland artists and student ensembles and choral groups. Outside of college life, Palmer performs with the Joe Manis Trio, which has played at the campus for community events.

Took Jason Palmers intro to music class a few terms ago didn’t think it would be so fun! Really enjoyed the class
I am a student majoring in music. I didn’t think Jason’s class would be so beneficial and fun! I’m not too much into jazz, but the skills I learned in his classes will stick with me to PSU and on!
Thank you for sharing your music journey. I really appreciate what you bring to our students at PCC.
A great profile of one of PCC’s many outstanding faculty members. Kudos to James Hill for producing a fun and interesting video!
Jason – you are an awesome musician and instructor! I truly enjoy working with you in our division.
Jason is not just a fine musician and teacher, he is an extremely insightful one! While I’ve never taken any of his classes, he is often on the performance jury at Sylvania with another excellent musician and teacher, John Mery. His advice during these juries has been invaluable to my development.
