At PCC, sustainability isn’t just an ideal, it’s a commitment that extends to all the work being accomplished through the 2008 voter-approved bond program. As the college increases classroom space, updates equipment and technology, expands workforce training programs and remodels aging buildings, it maintains its dedication to achieving LEED certification in all buildings.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. Awarded by the US Green Building Council, LEED certification is achieved through a set of rating systems for design, construction, operation and maintenance.
Two of the new buildings constructed through PCC’s $374 million voter-approved bond program have earned LEED certification – the Willow Creek (Platinum) and Newberg Centers (Gold), as has the remodeled and renovated Downtown Center (Gold). The new addition to Building 7 on the Rock Creek Campus and the new Student Commons on the Southeast Campus are in the certification process and are slated for LEED Silver certification. Three other buildings are on track for LEED gold. They include the Library at Southeast, and two new buildings currently under construction on the Cascade Campus, the Student Union and Cascade Hall (the new administration building).
Attached is a guide to key sustainability achievements throughout the PCC system made possible by bond dollars. They also include the installation of solar arrays, partnerships with neighboring communities and opportunities for business development.

PCC’S 2008 voter-approved $374 million bond program is increasing opportunities for residents to access quality, affordable higher education close to where they live and work. Additional classrooms, updated equipment and technology, and advanced workforce training programs are helping to pave the way for future employment options.
