PHOTOS: Build-A-Bot theater play features high-tech actors

Photos and story by

On Friday, Aug. 29, a collaborative theater play featuring a human and some non-humans rocked the Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus. The Build-A-Bot performance was the final chapter of an annual multi-discipline, week-long class. An audience showed up to watch students from art, graphic design, theater arts, and mechanical and electronic engineering come together to act out the play “Alice Through the Google Glass.” It featured robot performances with flat screens for heads and Roombas for wheels plus one human student playing Alice (Deanna Hart). Despite one bot falling over and damaging it’s flat screen, the theater production went off without a hitch.
