The new Student Commons on Southeast Campus serves a large and diverse group of PCC students. But the building – part of the construction funded by the 2008 bond measure – each Friday also hosts a group of local middle school youth, who gather after school to explore creative and fun projects related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The group, called the Montavilla Young Makers Club, meets in the commons’ STEM Center, where they can also interact with PCC students and faculty. Christine Egan, manager for community relations at Southeast Campus, has the story on this innovative program.

PCC’s 2008 voter-approved $374 million bond program is increasing opportunities for residents to access quality, affordable higher education close to where they live and work. Additional classrooms, updated equipment and technology, and advanced workforce training programs are helping to pave the way for future employment options. For more information, visit the bond website.
