Sylvania Campus hosts state chess championship

More than 180 chess players came to the Sylvania Campus to compete in the 2015 Oregon High School Chess Team Association Championship Tournament. Players along with their coaches, chaperones and family took part in the two-day competition on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28 at the CC Building cafeteria. The tourney first started in 1960 and was the first time it has been hosted at a college. There were 30 teams represented from 15 area schools and included varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams. PCC President Jeremy Brown provided opening remarks.
