Posterize this!: PCC students show their diverse interests in chemistry
Photos and story by Janis Nichols
The title of the event was “Better Living Through Chemistry in the 21st Century,” but it could have been titled “How to Make Chemistry Wicked Fun.” Approximately 400 PCC chemistry students from the Rock cReek Campus participated in the May 29 poster session at the campus. The student conference, now in its eighth year, focused on sustainability, pharmacy, green chemistry and nanotechnology. The students engaged in both dry research and lab-based research.
The posters were exceptionally diverse and they included such titles as “Diatomaceous Earth: How Lithified Unicellular Organisms Fuel Industry”; “Eat Your Dirt”; “Stop and Smell Yourself”; and the “Fermentation of Beer.” The entire chemistry faculty, both part time and full time, assisted the students with their projects.
