Rock Creek’s landscape changes with its students

Photos and story by

Lordy, Lordy, look who’s 40.

The Rock Creek Campus first opened to students in early 1976 (enrollment was 600 students then) and this academic year serves as it’s 40th. Much has changed since those heady days when wily founding PCC president Amo DeBernardis had crews build a toilet tower to beat permit expirations from local government agencies during “The Battle for Rock Creek.” Rock Creek now serves 8,000 credit and 24,000 total students each year, offering college transfer, professional and technical programs, including Aviation Science, Veterinary and Maintenance technology, all situated on 256 acres of prime farm and wetlands. It also has the the most art installations of any campus – 214.

The first week proved sunny and warm for students and staff returning for the 2015-16 academic year. We got some cool photos of the sun and fun, but so did Sam Tenney of the Daily Journal of Commerce, who spotlighted the campus’ bond construction with a photo gallery.
