Girl Scout troops launch a boat and plenty of educational opportunities

Photos and story by

IMG_2001In July, Girl Scout troops from Woodburn and Forest Grove partnered with PCC to build a 12-foot skiff and test it in the Sylvania pool. The group of young girls built the small boat under the direction of the Wind and Oar Boat School, which engages underserved youth in STEAM projects. For many of the young students, this was the first time using tools or building something from start to finish and had to carefully plan to build a working boat.

The new skiff is destined for a local Girl Scout camp.
