Photos and story by

From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 29, a group of PCC students, staff, faculty and community stakeholders are joining together to clean up the area surrounding the Southeast Campus. Campus and local leaders encourage the public to join them as they make an impact.BIG Community Clean Up Flyer, shares date, time and location of the event.

Last year The BIG Community Clean Up involved over 70 volunteers and garbage weighing in at over half a ton was collected as part of the larger clean-up effort. This year, as was the case last year, groups will be assigned to help clean and ready the Harrison Park Elementary School garden, work with the City of Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s Graffiti Abatement team to clean graffiti near the campus and surrounding businesses, and trash pick-up along SE 82nd Avenue and Division Street. The Southeast Campus, The Jade District, APANO, East Portland Neighborhood Office, Harrison Park School, Southeast ASPCC, and the SOLVE Organization will join in.

To sign up and participate, visit this Google doc sheet.

A portion of this work will be supported by a one-time grant from the East Portland Neighborhood Office’s Reuse, Recycle and Clean Up Program.

Free coffee from Old School Coffee and donuts from Krispy Kreme will be served to help get the cleaning crew ready for the day. Southeast Food Services Supervisor Scott Powell will provide a free lunch at the end of the event.
