PCC Automotive students tour PIRPCC Automotive Service Technology students

The PNC Bank Grand Prix Day was well-received as more than a dozen Portland Community College Automotive Service Technology Program students attended the recent event practice at the Portland International Raceway on Friday, Sept. 1.

PCC automotive students not only enjoyed lunch but experienced both Indy Lights and NTT Indy Cars practices. Then, they were introduced to staff members of the famed NASCAR Chip Ganassi Racing Teams who discussed high performance vehicle technologies, career opportunities and winning strategies with students.

This is the second year PNC Bank has generously sponsored automotive students from PCC, Mt. Hood Community College, Clackamas Community College, and Clark College to join the event.

PCC had the largest presence there as its automotive students were eager to explore motorsports and learn from race engineers and mechanics. They explored high-performance industry careers and high earnings potentials for the right candidates in an overall high-demand sector with a critical shortfall of trained mechanics across the nation.
