It was “showtime” at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus last Friday night.
On Feb. 21, PCC played host to a celebration of the HBCU experience at the Cascade Gym, where the Portland Trail Blazers and Alaska Airlines united community members for a fun evening. Local dance and music groups energized the crowd, while community organizations engaged with attendees, and the Howard University Showtime Marching Band delivered its debut performance in Portland.
“It was an incredible event,” said PCC Athletics Director Tony Broadous. “Our students had a great time, and the community members who attended thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The representatives from Howard University were absolutely delighted with how everything turned out, and they’re already excited about returning next year.”
The band was flown to Portland by Alaska Airlines for an entire weekend of community interaction, celebration and education. The weekend was punctuated with a performance during the annual “HBCU to the Pros” game on Feb. 22 between the Trail Blazers and the Charlotte Hornets.
PCC’s Athletics Department hosted the band, community and partners for the HBCU experience. For more info on the Panthers and their teams, visit its website.
