Writing classes give your characters voice

PORTLAND, Ore. – Finally, learn how to capture all those creative ideas you’ve been carrying and turn them into a gripping piece of writing. Portland Community College will present two levels of writing classes this spring to spur the writer within you. Both non-credit classes are taught by Mary Rechner. Beginning Fiction: Level I will incorporate free writing and writing prompts to generate story ideas. Rechner explains secrets of building interesting characters, developing points of view, tightening up your dialogue and more. Students will have the opportunity to share their writing with one another. The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays, April 8 through May 13, in Room 217 of Grant High School, 2245 N.E. 36th St. The cost is $59. Beginning Fiction: Level II will invite students to go deeper in the writing process and polish writing projects. The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays, May 20 through June 10, in Room 217 of Grant High School. The cost is $42. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-978-5143.
