Rep. David Wu to announce legislation to help community college students

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Congressman David Wu Monday will announce new legislation to promote partnerships between community colleges and large universities to make it easier for more students to go on to a four-year institution. Portland Community College has created successful partnerships with Portland State University, Oregon State University and the Oregon Institute of Technology that allows students to be enrolled at both schools, reducing application and transcript fees and making a smoother transition to four-year schools. PCC implemented the co-enrollment programs in 2000.At the event on Monday, students and university officials will join Wu and talk about how the partnership between PCC and PSU has benefited Oregon students. "Oregon has led the way with strong partnerships between community colleges and universities," said Wu. "My legislation will encourage similar partnerships throughout the nation so that more students enter the workforce with a four-year college degree."Who: Congressman David Wu, PSU President Daniel O.
