Oriental brush painting class teaches timeless strokes

Photos and story by

BEAVERTON, Ore. – It’s the painting style that has expressed the creativity of Chinese artists for thousands of years. Now Portland Community College will offer you a chance to experience Chinese brush painting for yourself in a non-credit workshop. Chinese Brush Painting Workshop, led by Christine Lee, will teach students how the combination of color and ink on rice paper gives way to beautiful, delicate art using refined gradations. The class is open to all levels of artists: by learning a few simple strokes, you can create a complete picture worthy of framing. The two-week class will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, June 23 though June 30, in Room 1540 of PCC’s Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $49. Supplies can be purchased at class. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2707.
