PORTLAND, Ore. – The hours you spend defending planet earth through computer games can actually lead to a profitable career. An online class offered by Portland Community College reveals the possibilities. Intro to the Computer Game Industry, a non-credit class, offers an excellent primer to jump into computer-gaming work. Students will learn about game development, game design and production, and the current challenges facing the industry. Learn how to prepare for a dynamic career and succeed on the technical, artistic, or business side of game development. The highly interactive course is led by Tom Meigs who has worked as a game designer and producer for leading electronic entertainment developers including THQ, The Walt Disney Company and Sony Pictures. His new book, "Ultimate Game Design: Building Game Worlds" is recommended by many game designers in the industry. Meigs will guide students through each lesson, facilitate discussions and answer questions personally through a unique online format. Held entirely on line via the Internet, the six-week class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with the instructor and other students. The class will be offered three times this summer: June 16 through July 23, July 21 through Aug. 27, or Aug. 18 through Sept. 24. Cost is $79. To register, visit ourcoursescometoyou.com.
