PORTLAND, Ore. – Students from other colleges and universities can take accelerated summer Portland Community College courses without having to take placement testing, orientation and advising. The PCC Backstage Pass allows students to earn transfer credits to take back to their home institution by taking accelerated formats where they can attend a whole year’s worth of one course in one summer. Experienced college students will get a fast-track for summer enrollment: no placement testing, orientation or advising. The college is offering accelerated courses in the sciences, humanities, math and social sciences."We’ve done this for years and summer is the only time of year we do it,"said Dennis Bailey-Fougnier, student services and director at Sylvania Campus. "When a student visits from another college or university, this system is designed to streamline this and make it as easy as possible for people."Although classes started Monday, June 21, there are hundreds of PCC classes that start throughout the summer, particularly PCC’s popular short-format courses, which typically run four to eight weeks. The steps are easy as prospective students simply fill out an admission form ($25, non-refundable application fee is required) either online or in print form; and make sure they have met pre-requisites. Students can register for classes as soon as their admissions form has been processed. To get started on Backstage Pass, go to: www.pcc.edu/backstage, or call 503-977-4919.
