PORTLAND, Ore. – The Distance Learning program at Portland Community College earned a grant of $187,906 to improve and expand distance learning services to residents throughout Multnomah County. The Community Access Capital Grant, administered by the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission, will expand the number and types of programs that residents can access via the PCC Educational Access Channel on cable television."The grant will allow us to move from a videotape based broadcast system to a DVD server, providing a higher quality signal to home viewers; to stream our broadcasts on the Internet, permitting wider access to our programming; and to augment the bond funded construction, to create a new master control,"said John Sneed, director of Distance Education at PCC.
