April 3: Daily Journal of Commerce: Seven students in PCC’s Excellence in Trades Apprenticeship Program took part in a five-day workshop over the course of their spring break that combined classroom learning, site visits and hands-on training with members of Cement Masons Local 555.

April 4: Portland Tribune: The City Repair Project and the Associated Students of Portland Community College are organizing a public event to celebrate Earth Day this month.

April 4: 4-Traders: The PCC Foundation received $10,000 for the Future Connect program, which provides scholarships and mentors for academically at-risk students to overcome barriers to achieving higher education.

April 5: The Oregonian: Terra Nova Community Farm, which has since expanded to property at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus, will deliver fresh produce this year to 13 different area schools.

April 6: Daily Journal of Commerce: Portland Community College is in the midst of a massive facelift for its Sylvania campus, which sprawls across 122 acres between Tigard and Lake Oswego.

April 6: Comcast Newsmakers: Kristin Watkins is interviewed by Ken Ackerman about PCC’s 50th anniversary and the PCC Foundation as well as PCC’s impact on the community.

April 7: The Oregonian: “It’s just a great group project to do together,” said Heather Peterson, a volunteer with Portland-based Friends of Trees who is working on a landscaping degree at Portland Community College.

April 7: The Oregonian: Winona LaDuke, a nationally acclaimed Native American and environmental writer, is coming to Portland Community College in April as part of its Earth Week celebrations.

April 11: Portland Observer: Seven Portland Community College students have been rewarded with recognition by the space agency NASA for hard work in their studies.

April 11: Portland Observer: The 15th Annual Cascade Job Fair, one of the largest resources for job seekers in Portland, makes its return on Tuesday, April 24.

April 11: The St. Helens Chronicle: PCC pushes forward with plans for a training center in St. Helens despite Portland Police’s decision to have it’s own center in North Portland.

April 13: The Skanner: The Jefferson High Middle College program allows students to enroll and earn credit in college level courses at Portland Community College Cascade Campus. And one hoops star is proof that the program works.

April 16: The Oregonian: A work group on a basic abatement has been meeting to discuss ways to use the money from that fee. The group includes Hillsboro Chamber President Deanna Palm and Portland Community College Rock Creek President David Rule.

April 17: Portland Tribune: Bicylists have an added reason to attend Sunday’s Earth Day celebration at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus – free tuneups.

April 18: The Oregonian: More than 20 of Portland’s key public agencies, including Portland Community College, many business and community groups all played key roles in shaping the Portland Plan.

April 19: The Oregonian: When she moved to the United States in 1980, Alba Sullivan knew only broken English but became fluent by taking classes at Portland Community College.

April 19: The Oregonian, KGW TV  & The Columbian: The Portland Trail Blazers hold practice that is open to the public at Portland Community College.

April 21: The Oregonian: Portland Community College’s annual celebration of Hispanic culture is set to start Monday, April 23 with a week-long schedule of workshops, speakers and entertainment.

April 22: Smart Planet.com: PCC’s Newberg Center’s water use was reduced by 49.2 percent, thanks to low-flow faucets and toilets. The design allows for maximum daylight use, and has ventilation stacks and a circulation spine to naturally regulate the temperature.

April 24: KXL & KEX: Chris Brown of KXL and KEX’s Brad Ford interviewed Russ Jones and Auto Service Tech instructors about their hybrid battery research.

April 24: Joe Smith of KGW TV profiled the Cascade Job Fair and Joshua Waldman’s workshop on job searching in social media.

April 24: Northwest Cable News: More than a thousand kids made a splash at the Rock Creek campus for Portland Community College Tuesday, learning about something often taken for granted: water.

April 25: Newberg Graphic: Portland Community College’s Newberg Center – its newest and “greenest” facility to date – is slated to receive a multitude of honors at the annual Community Awards Banquet hosted by the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce.

April 26: The Oregonian: Mars could be the next frontier for humans as Earth’s growing population continues to strain limited natural resources. Four Portland Community College students are joining the international effort to explore Mars as a potentially safe, habitable place.

April 26: KATU TV: The annual 82nd Avenue Parade of Roses will return for its sixth year at 10 a.m. Saturday. The colorful parade will run from Eastport Plaza (82nd and Holgate) to the southeast campus of Portland Community College to the intersection of Yamhill and 78th Avenue.

April 26: St. Helens Chronicle: The Fire Protection Technology program at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus has a reputation as one of the strongest programs of its kind in the region. This spring, however, the program is trying something different.

April 26: Tualatin Times: It’s that ever-changing technology that has led Russ Jones and the rest of Portland Community College’s Sylvania Automotive Service Technology department to step up their work with hybrid and electric cars.
