TWO ITEMS: Grant writing workshop positions you for reward

PORTLAND, Ore. – Money for organizations like yours is out there, but it takes the skills and endurance of a grant writer to secure it. This spring, Portland Community College will offer a professional workshop to help you gain the skills you need to keep putting your budget in the black.The non-credit Grant Writing Workshop, a two-part class, begins with an overview of the layout process, funding sources, developing strategies, budget development and writing successful proposals. The second session will provide review and feedback on students’ written proposals. "More and more programs depend on grant money for their survival,"said Tsipora Dimant, PCC Community Education manager. "This class is important for most professionals who work in non-profit, state or federal institutions."Both workshops will meet at PCC’s Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. The first will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in the Spruce Room of the College Center and the second from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 19 in Room 317, of the Health Technology Building. An upcoming non-credit class offered by Portland Community College may help you turn your script into film sooner than you think.Screenwriting is taught by William Johnson, a local screenwriter. If you are in the midst of writing, this class will show you how your story premise, characterization and plot all tie together, and how nudging one of those aspects can greatly improve your work. The class includes opportunities for students to critique one another’s screenplays in a supportive environment."This class draws out the story hiding in your soul and helps translate it into a wonderful medium,"said Tsipora Dimant, PCC Community Education manager.
